Attention Clone Engine Builders and Racers

We are planning to have a tech seminar on the third weekend of Oct in the southern, IL area. It would be held at one of our sponsors, the Holiday Hotel, in one of their meeting rooms. The location is pretty good, as it is right on the intersection of I-57 and I-64, so people can get a straight shot at it from any direction on the interstate.

I have talked with many people and the interest is very high, but I need to know what kind of numbers will want to show up to get the right sized room. Also, the date is not solid yet, but we figured the third week in Oct, as most of the points racing will be completed in this area, and will allow us to do it on a weekend, so all the guys with regular jobs can make it also.

This will be mainly for track owners/promoters/tech people and of course, engine builders or people getting into building or selling the clone engine. While many racers will want to come, I'm not sure of the space available, so once we get the date firmed up by feedback form those of you that would like to attend, I will put out a notice so people can RSVP to make sure they have a seat in this seminar.

The seminar will be put on using Charlie Sox's tech tools and we will be covering a lot of ground on what you can and cannot do with a stock clone, and I'm sure that any questions on the Super Box and BP classes will be answered.

There will also be room for builders and people that make parts for the clones to display their products and hand out business cards and any informational papers they may have on their products and catologs from any of the many vendors that now handle clone supplies and parts.

For those that travel, you will be offered a room discount, but there will be no food service, so you will be on your own for lunch, or if it goes late, supper. I will try to have soft drinks available, but I have to have that catered by the services offered at the hotel. I can't just bring in coolers of ice and sodas. At the very least, we will have ice water.

I would imagine that after the seminar, there will be a lot of people that will head to the bar for some further bench racing and to compare notes on products, track rules, and just about everything that can be dicussed over a cold one and that is the reason I got us great rates for rooms.

I used to work there as the Maintenance Engineer (big title, small paycheck), and the guy who is the general manager was the front desk manager when I worked there, and the Hotel already sponsors several racecar teams, so they are race people and will help us all they can. They do sponsor our team, but just barely, as they spend most of their sponsorship dollars on race cars, but they have offered to donate the room for no charge and a deep discount, if you need to spend the night.

Please let me know if you would be interested and if the date is OK with you. If enough people tell me the date would be better on anothe weekend, we will change it, but right now we are shooting for the third weekend in Oct, on Friday or Saturday, and some people are flying in to St Louis, renting a car to drive the 100 or so miles to the Hotel, so there is a chance to hook up with that person and get a ride to and from the airport.

I would like to see some of the big names in the industry show up to represent their products, put them on display, and feel free to discuss dealership programs, pricing, and any other detail to help make this class of racing a bigger success.

As most of you know, the clone engine or Smallblock 200 is really taking hold, with the clone class often being the biggest at most tracks that offer it. One of the biggest problems is getting all the tracks on the same page, and I hope to be able to address some of that by providing the information that they need, and not tell them that they should do it because everyone else is.

This seminar should provide almost all the answers you may have concerning the running, teching, and parts availability for everything you might need to make clone racing a success at your track, although the main focus is going to be on the tech portion of how to, and what to look for. The rest will be addressed after the tech and during breaks or after the seminar. I would like to see a portion of the seminar address some of the other issues that are related to tech, such as track rules, and other issue people may have, but again,th main focus will be on tech.

Please contact me with one of the following. PMs are slow, as I don't get up there everyday and it wouldn't take long to fill up my inbox, so e-mail, or a phone call will work better, and both are available by clicking on my name and I will include them below. Sorry for the long post, but I am just typing this as it comes to mind, and I don't want to leave anything out. If you do have any suggestions on what you would like ot see at the seminar, please let me know so we can try to include or address everyones needs.

I would like to mention that I am really close to KY, TN, IN, MO, IA, and if you look where I-57 and I-64 meet, you will see that it has easy access for most in this area.
